Region: This coffee comes from Santa María de Dota in the Cantón de Dota, part of the Los Santos region in San José Province, Costa Rica. The area is renowned for its cool mountain climate, fertile volcanic soils, and rich coffee-growing tradition, which produces beans with exceptional sweetness and complexity.
Farm / Cooperative: Sourced through partnerships with local cooperatives such as Coopedota, one of Costa Rica’s most respected coffee organizations. Coopedota works closely with smallholder farmers in the region, offering technical support, quality control, and sustainable farming practices. Many of the beans come from small farms participating in cooperatives or similar local projects, where cherries are carefully harvested by hand at peak ripeness.
Altitude: 1,800–2,000 meters above sea level
Varieties: Caturra, Villasarchi
Processing Method: Black Honey – a meticulous method where much of the coffee cherry’s mucilage is left intact during drying, resulting in a deeply sweet and fruit-forward cup. Beans are slowly dried on raised beds, allowing sugars to fully absorb into the seed for a rich, layered flavor.
Tasting Notes: Cherry • Dark Grapes • Pinkish Fruits • Raisin
Cup Profile: Intensely sweet with a syrupy body, vibrant fruit complexity, and a long, wine-like finish.
